Bit of a Aliens on a dark desert highway cool wind in my hair shirt throwaway statement. Doesn’t back it up with any evidence whatsoever. A very ‘Brexit’ statement! She should have said, “I could have a load in my shed!” For greater effect and a better headline! I agree with her totally. In the unlimited vastness of space, I fail to believe we are the only so-called “intelligent” (and I’m not so sure about that word tbh) form of life out there. We know, the government sent us this message through movies, so we can prepare our minds to cope with our next neighbor but we ignore since we think movies are fictions

People are not interested in other life forms. If they were, they would have at least basic knowledge about the reproduction of toads, the lifespan of dragonflies, biofield perception of the Aliens on a dark desert highway cool wind in my hair shirt platypus bill, the vision of flies, etc. Alas, they don’t. What they mean by “aliens”, is other humans from outer space that would expand their horizon beyond earth. I think its arrogant of the human race to think we are the only organisms to exist in the universe, all the billions of galaxies no way are we alone.
But the number that will evolve to a technological civilization would be a minuscule fraction of these. And it is very likely that such civilizations would probably destroy themselves in some thousands of years. Just look at ours! Given the age of the universe, a few thousand years is nothing. So far we still have no evidence of any life beyond earth despite searching for it for many years. Clearly there has to be life out there somewhere but I think we have now established that it’s rare and that the star wars/star trek universe only exists in science fiction. Across a billion planets in each of the billion galaxies in our universe, it seems almost certain that some form of life will have started somewhere else. BBC
